NEWS FLASH Oct 2008 from Diana McLeish Executive Officer Australian Murray Grey Beef Cattle Society.

The MG’s are doing well over here in Australia at the moment with a number of recent successes at Royal Shows. Most recently MG’s won the Junior and Senior Interbreed bulls at the Perth Royal show in Western Australia, a significant win following a 9 year old MG cow being crowned the Supreme Exhibit at Canberra Royal back in March.

On the hoof and hook front, Sydney Royal this year saw a MG steer win both the Reserve Lightweight steer on hoof and Champion Light weight steer on the hook, the Champion Schools carcase was also a MG.

More recently At Adelaide Royal MG steers won 4 of 14 classes, came 2nd 3 times , 3rd twice and 4th twice with a MG steer also winning the Reserve Champion on hoof in the Export class.

This was followed by successful on hook judging with a MG steer winning Champion Light Weight carcase and one of the schools winning schools Light Domestic Carcase award.

Melbourne Royal saw MG steers win Champion Light Weight Steer on hoof, Reserve Champion Light Weight Steer and Champion Medium Weight Steer Domestic. So everything is looking up and will hopefully continue to go that way.
